Camp History

Goal Mexico is a company dedicated to sharing the gift of the game and community between the United States and Mexico. We believe social awareness to be the key for youth awareness, and we invite parents and family to join us to travel abroad and open our arms to a new experience. Our goal is to continue the blessings of the game through camaraderie, social challenge, personal innovation, and to bond with players from different areas, as well as receive the gift of others. The series of training camps include playing local teams of equal or greater ability, local food and language training, fun excursions scheduled around the twice-a-day soccer training, and a bonding experience for players, teams, and staff.

Phil Scicluna, founder of Goal Mexico, has learned various systems of football from traveling around the world and from his family. The Scicluna family legacy of the game began on the island nation of Malta where Queen Elizabeth II awarded the King's Cross to Joseph Scicluna, Phil’s uncle, the only player beside David Beckham to receive the award. Upon moving to the United States, the Scicluna family of 16 (11 boys) continued to play soccer in inner city leagues in Detroit, Michigan. Paul Scicluna, titled the "Godfather" of Michigan's Soccer, brought the first professional soccer team to the area, the largest indoor training facility, and formed a cutting edge premier youth soccer league which has developed Michigan's competitive soccer to what it is today. Currently, Phil's cousins carry on the responsibility in Michigan and founded one of the largest soccer clubs in the Midwest. Utilizing "the family's" method of training, Soccer Waza and Waza Flo Club have won several National Championships, drawn players from all over the world, and run camps abroad in Jamaica and Brazil.

Phil is very proud of his immigrant family's contribution to the thousands of soccer players who have come to enjoy the Scicluna experience here and around the world. He feels players and parents are ambassadors of the game and his view is: beside food, water and shelter, football (soccer), is the most congruent action known to the human race.

We share a much bigger excitement for the parents and players of today to represent the game as ambassadors, to learn the cross-cultural values, and share the art of socialization and self-actualization through the game.
